What do Surrogacy Coordinators do?

Babies are born every day. Each of them comes from a different background, culture, and home. But one thing they all have in common is a mom and dad.

Sometimes, though, couples have physical challenges that keep them from successfully delivering a healthy child. Many of these couples choose to have a Surrogate complete the job that they cannot. For that, they rely on the services of a Surrogacy Coordinator.

As a Surrogacy Coordinator, you’re the main point of contact for both the couple wishing to have a baby and the surrogate mother willing to carry and deliver one. The wannabe parents who come to you have agonized and made a very emotional decision. You sympathize, offer your Counselor skills, and alleviate concerns about the process. That involves asking questions, identifying their wishes, and providing a contract of services.

Once the practical and monetary details are worked out, it’s your job as a Surrogacy Coordinator to locate a Surrogate who matches the couple’s needs. Of course, you maintain a database of choices, but each case is different, and making the right match is pivotal to everyone involved.

Throughout the process, you work closely with both parties by setting up appointments with Psychologists, Doctors, and Fertility Specialists. You also work with Lawyers to make sure the transaction goes off without any legal hiccups. Although the service you provide is a business transaction, it’s a very special undertaking that results in bringing new life — and therefore love and hope — into a family.

Should I be a Surrogacy Coordinator?

You should have a bachelor’s degree or higher and share these traits:

  • Trustworthy: You are known for your personal integrity and honesty.
  • Reliable: You can always be counted on to do a good job.
  • Levelheaded: You hold your emotions in check, even in tough situations.
