Overview of a Surrogacy cycle


As per the advice of your Fertility physician, or depending on your previous medical history, you may choose to undergo a cycle with self eggs or donor eggs, and or transfer to self or to surrogate, and or fresh or frozen transfer. Surrogacy Cycle

Self eggs(Intended Mother) and Self Sperms (Intended Father) fertilized to form Embryos which are transferred to Surrogate Mother

ED Surrogacy Cycle

Fresh Egg Donor Eggs (Indian or Caucasian) andSelf Sperms (Intended Father) fertilized to form Embryos which are transferred to Surrogate Mother

Frozen Embryo Cycles

Embryos frozen either in our Lab from previous Cycles or frozen abroad and later shippedto our Lab, which are transferred to Surrogate Mother

Self Cycle

Self eggs(Intended Mother) and Self Sperms (Intended Father) fertilized to form Embryos which are transferred to Intended Mother

ED Self Cycle

Fresh egg donor &self sperms transferred to Intended Mother

Frozen Eggs Cycle

Eggs retrieved from Egg Donor or Self (Intended Mother) are frozen earlier, and later fertilized with Sperms (of Intended Father or Donor Sperms), transferred to Self (Intended Mother) or Surrogate Mother

Embryo Adoption

Embryos donated by other couples can be adopted by Intended Parents for self transfer only. Please note in India, Embryo Adoption cannot be done to Surrogate Mother



Women with some medical problem might decide to utilize the option of surrogate. The woman with medical problems like uterus hysterectomy, fibroids in uterus, age factor, repeated IVF failure condition that makes pregnancy impossible or medically risky, such as chemotherapy, heart disease and Juvenile uterus.


Surrogates are generally provided by the surrogacy agency and ART banks registered under ICMR. These agencies work in collaboration with the fertility clinics. Clinics charge patient for the complete package including fertilization, fee of the surrogate & delivery of the baby in the hospital. Patients from industrialized nations may have to pay the cost of flight tickets, medical procedures, hotel and legal advisors as a part of their package.


Few criteria should be kept in mind while choosing a surrogate.

  • The surrogate should be at least 21 years of age but not more than 35 years.
  • Should have given birth to at least one healthy baby.
  • Has passed all the psychological & physical health tests, such as syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis B&C, TSH and Prolactin.



  • Both the couple and the surrogate mother shall enter into a surrogacy agreement that is legally enforceable
  • All expenses of the surrogate related to pregnancy shall be borne by the couple seeking surrogacy
  • A couple shall not avail the services of more than one surrogate at any given time
  • A surrogate mother cannot act as an oocyte donor for the couple seeking surrogacy
  • A relative or a known person to the couple may act as a surrogate
  • If the woman acting as a surrogate is married the consent of her husband is mandatory
  • Surrogate woman should not be less than 21 years of age and not over 35 years of age
  • Simultaneous transfer of embryos in the woman and the surrogate is prohibited
  • Surrogate mother should be medically tested for sexually transmitted diseases and all other diseases which may endanger the health of the child
